On dying...
Avian Influenza, H5N1 or whatever. It's not just for asians, and birds.
Are you guys worried about this? Any precautions you're taking?
Please use the comments section to talk about this.
And per Justin's request;
Busta Rhymes: Where's your Money? [feat. the ghost of Ol' Turdy NASCAR]
(Busta is kinda weak, but ODB's verse, er...kills it.)
(and the beat is neat.)

Personally, I'm quite worried. Just general anxiety over what I think will be a major period of change that will alter our world greatly. I feel fairly confident that a lot of people are going to die, people I know might die, and our economy and respective ways of life will probably be devastated.
My only plans are eat vitamins, wear a mask all the time, and never ride the train. Once I hear about human communicability reaching Tokyo, it's bicycles only for me. Good excuse to buy a scooter too, maybe.
Anyone know what masks are good enough to keep out stuff like this?
I am very worried, last week I had a conversation with jared about moving in with his parents because as soon as that shit hits the US. I am out, seriously...
shit is real serious.
I saw the birds, i know how those fuckers can really come at you.
dem birds are neva scared
This flu is straight up gangsta! What I'm more worried about is the end of our oil based economy. that shit might blast us back to the middle ages. Regardless, these are very exciting times to be alive on planet earth.
Fuck that shit... I'm not an old man and I'm not a weak baby, so bring that shit on. The worst that would happen is checking in to the heal palace and get some fluids. The only thing that I'm taking from this bird flu is a strengthening in my need to get a handgun with John D, so those birds don't get near me.
Down with the birds-mad ups to me homies.
i dunno....i'm unconvinced. as unfortunate is to say this, infectious disease really fucks the poor, and is more challenging in the elderly and young, but that's about it. Tokyo's gonna be fine. There's a lot of talk about comparing this to the 1920 pandemic, but that was a pandemic characterized my lack of communication, lack of medical knowledge, and lack of appropriate hospital support. As long as people get the appropriate supportive therapy when they get sick, people should be fine. The real important thing here is to find patient zero (i.e. the guy who fucked a bird and brought this to us all), and cut his balls off.
hehe...fuck you guys.
This isn't plain old influenza, am I wrong? And so far it's mortality rate has been strikingly high. The spanish flu epidemic of 1918 killed between 25 to 50 million people in less than two years and had a mortality rate of about 5%. This coming outbreak is estimated to have a death-rate of over 50% (granted this figure might be inflated from the small sample size, unreported cases, and innefective health-care). I know you're being fecetious, but it's not about birds, and it's wont spare the young, healthy, and invincible like us.
Get ready to die.
I don't think Tokyo will be fine, I think we are all fucked.
We're for sure fucked in terms of oil...fuck, god we're so fucked in so many ways. America's fucked. What do you do? Save a few grand and hole it a way for that global depression? Won't be worth shit. Buy silver? Buy a tent and tons of food?
fuck.
think of the world as a house for rent. living in the house is all good when you have the space. then you start having your girlfriend stay over all the time, then her girlfriends start coming over, then you invite your homeboys over to hang with the ladies. then the ladies start having babies, then there is 6 billion people living in your house, and the pipes can't pump enough water to drink, or shower, and the electricity keeps blowing out because you keep stressing the wattage. the place is dirty as shit, because not enough people want to admitt they're part of the problem. then the land lord comes by and kicks out everyone, and to top it off, he keeps your rent deposit too.
money wont save us. and maybe this isn't something to joke about, but what is there to do?
I'm not religious, and I'm not going to start believing in god just because I don't have any other answers.
p.s. matt is kind of a old man, and a weak baby wrapped up in one. derek has a point about the flu being gangsta. our oil running out could be the dick in the ass.
JK matt. JK.
So... who amongst us is most likely to die?
Matt.
Jk, MJ, JK.
I just ate a bird and gained all of its super powers. Also I'm going to live forever because I've already ordered my bionic body to place my guts into when I run this body down too much. God bless mad science-and don't worry about anything.
Kyle, a little clarification on this would be rad... but I heard that this flu targets the host's immune system which means that people with STRONG immune systems, not children and old people, will be more likely to die from it.
I read that the largest group of people who will die from this flu will be between the ages of 18 and 35. In other words, everone who posts on this blog.
I think it's something to be worried about. Consider the following tidbit:
"Unlike SARS, influenza probably could not be stopped through quarantines or fever-recognition scanners at airports, because influenza victims become infectious up to a full day before they start exhibiting symptoms." (Australian Finance Review, 4-7-05)
nah, I think the flu is pretty non-specific in the cells that it infects (which is any it can get its dirty dirty hands on), and there isn't an airborne or communicable virus on the planet that kills the healthy/young without beatslappin babies and oldies first.
And I'm not trying to make light of this. People gonna die. And it's not going to be people who have access or means to medical care, or understand when they're sick and have to get help. But look at it this way:
There are tons of things that can kill you, but only a handful of ways to die. Here's why this flu won't kill you:
1. Kidney failure: this is likely if people dehydrate from unchecked fever, but unlikely from most other viral effects (unless you've already got fucked kidneys)
2. Fucked up brain: Encephalitis (inflammation of the actual brain tissue) and meningitis (inflammation of the tissue layers that surround the brain. This is gonna be the big one with the flu. The flu isn't is famous for encephalits as, say the motherfuckin West Nile, but it can still do it. This can't really be cured either, you just gotta wait it out.
3. Lung failure: In infections, this is usually from kidney failure or mucus that causes the lungs to get so wet that oxygen can't move into the bloodstream.
I dunno what else, but I'm tellin' you, this isn't gonna be a party, but it's not going to be the clearinghouse that people are making it out to be. And yeah, unfortunately the flu is wicked fucking contagious and it happens before you're sick. But with proper medical care and anti-viral meds (which sort of work for the flu) I think this blog just might make it.....Oh, hey, I'm selling anti-viral meds for $30 balla's...who wants to die?
Can you get me special medicine? uhh, I hear Vicodin and medical marijuana can help you beat this thing.
I've read that normal flu's live in the bottom of your lungs so its harder to cough shit up to spread to people; but this flu is in the upper portions so normal breathing helps only to spread it's great cloud of death and doom.
