Who's The Boss?

I grew up putting down guys like Bruce Springsteen, and John Cougar Mellencamp. Something about that "early eighties, heartland feeling, dad lost his job at the factory, and now I write rock songs" shit just pissed me off.
Bryan Adams tried to get in on that too, but it didn't work so well when people found out he was a Canadian pussy, and not a U.S. quarterback type.
I still have resistance about taking all that shit seriously enough to want to hear it, or enjoy it.
Every once in a while I will hear a song that I like, by an artist that I like, then I find out that song is a cover, of an artist I brushed off as overrated. Which brings me to why I'm writing this.
This new album The Brave And The Bold is a Tortoise and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy collaboration. The second track, titled Thunder Road, was haunting to me, I didn't know why, but I loved it. Later as I was reading the liner notes to the album, and discovered that Thunder Road is a Bruce Springsteen song, and it opens up the album Born To Run. Which I recently realized is actually a really good album, with a really good title track.
I guess my point is even though I grew up listening to Punk Rock, and Rap, I shouldn't write off good song writers as crap song writers just because they don't fit into the above catagories.
I still don't like John Mellencamp.
The Brave And The Bold is an all cover song album, and I highly recommend getting it in some way.

I know I've heard a lot of bands that I like cite Springsteen’s album "Nebraska" as a big influence. But I’ve always felt embarrassed listening to it.
