N.E.R.D.

It's time to decide who is the king of nerds. Rich white people who go to Ivy League schools and are so out of touch with reality they recreate fictional children's books, or nerds who are destined to be nerds and have accepted their fate. VOTE OR DIE

Larping (Live Action Role Playing)

Quidditch (There is honestly a league, not just a one day thing)

And can I just say fuck Harry Potter and grown ass people who think these books are god's gift to literature. Read some Roald Dahl or Shel Silverstein if you want genius child-fiction.

I have zero interest in Harry Potter, but ya know, they're having fun with their sport.

I like the D&D dorks though. There's more imagination and creativity in their...sport?

I'm sensing some self-loathing.
Sure, the Potter prose plods and the stories are predictable but it's just fun fantasy lit.
There's no religious agenda or major corporate sponsorship going on in these videos, just people having fun and getting caught up their worlds, which is AWESOME. I'm not going to go out and join their Quidditch game or role playing adventure but I strive everyday towards similar goals as these people.
It's no good to write people off when your not really at odds, just of different interests.

this reminds me of kickball in mpls, only everyone isn't getting drunk and smoking pot.
There are leagues, then there is the game I organize. we make the team right before the game, everyone can play, and People go crazy for it. It get's bigger every year.

The point would be that the books are great for children. But Adults obsessing over children's novels is not healthy. Not healthy at all.

All in all, i'm sure their "normal" people. I mean, who didn't play a little Magic The Gathering in 6th grade? (then Pogs we're invented)

I agree with Jason. Though I think it's okay to make value judgments on about other people's obsessions. Some obsess over D&D like others obsess over basketball or record shopping. Peoples’ interests vary, and so do peoples’ level of obsession. It’s usually the level of obsession that people find fault with, but only after the thing being obsessed about is categorized as dumb, unimportant, childish or whatever… If these kids were just as obsessed with football or their jobs as they are about role playing, than strangers on the internet wouldn’t find anything wrong with them. However, I do often wonder about how much could be accomplished if everyone focused their attention on achieving something that could benefit the world instead of spending so much time fulfilling personal escapist fantasies.

Well, yeah of course.
And let me restate; I don't find anything WRONG with these people...I just find them to be hilarious. Like Furries, French Canadians, or Senior Citizens.
