Kanye. Behind the Glory...
Alright... I don't know if you guys have checked it out, but I go to Kanye West's Blog regularly. He puts up some sweet stuff related to fashion, music, architecture, technology, etc. しかし、 he gets on these fucking tangents every once and awhile where he thinks he is super human. I like the guy. I think he is a true talent, and he works his ass off and has the ability to produce amazing material. I don't know if you guys anal-eyze his albums too much, but I would say he bats .500 for the most part. He can make some SERIOUS club bangers and also shows signs of a genius. His last two albums though... I mean, I get it, he's experimenting. I don't think that doing your whole album on vocoder should be consider groundbreaking anymore, especially when everyone in the Top 40 seems to be doing a single now using the same method. I do, however, applaud him for committing to the whole format of the album, and not just doing a Lil' Wayne style track or two for the shit of it.
I guess what I'm getting to, is that I see the potential to be extremely influential and at the same time someone who is terrified. I have no doubt in my mind that he will be in the record books as a contributor to music history, but I feel like he has the potential to do more than what he has. His early work on Jay-Z's albums was outstanding. Nobody (sans Jay-Z) saw this guy coming, and he proved himself as a pinnacle of Hip-Hop & Pop music.
My question is, after reading this recent post of his on his blog, what do you think this guy's future will be? Will he be a considered an pillar, innovator or flop of this genre of music? He obviously wants to branch out, and I applaud him for that. Fashion & design are obvious interests of his. So where does he end up? Anyways, read his own words & decide.

He's on his way to a Mike Jackson type of life-style. He feels that he deserves to be looked upon as some messiah, and if people say anything negative about him he does this.
step 1: put the caps lock on
step 2: do as much coke as possible before he looses his edge
step 3: get his assistant to take dictation
step 4: fire that assistant for not thanking him
In ten years he will be doing duets with Kelly Osborne and the current winner of American Idol for Kim Jun-Il's anamotronic replacement. I know that he's made some good music, but Christ... he didn't invent something new. As for as fashion goes; I could spray paint a strap on neon-glow-in-the-dark green and he would buy all 50,000 models so no one else can have one.
But the guy's OK in my book.
he's a pop icon for sure, and he will always be that. just that.
He's not important in the grand picture of music, fashion, art, or culture, though he thinks he is, because he's had some big success, he can afford to dress in male model clothing, and he gets to fuck as many hot women as he wants. Congrats Kanye, you're a major tool.
I'm not sure what he'd have to do to achieve immortal celebrity status, but just the fact that he's trying to is fucking lame, and boring.
I have enjoyed some of his music, though I don't think he's very original, despite his assessment of himself.
In the future he'll be remembered as one of history's most arrogant conspicuous consumers, and that's about it.

You guys make some good points. Especially about the strap-ons.
I guess that's what I was getting to. Is this guy gonna overshadow his talent in the long run with his arrogance. I mean, he's already done that in the "now" but will it last.
I also don't remember anyone calling for him to fail. Even after he assaults people in airports...
at this rate, his talent will be the only thing that lasts in the minds of the public. Though, he still has plenty of time to fuck that up if he insists on constantly refering to himself as a genius, and making a fool of himself when not given awards he thinks he deserves.
