ECHO 1

In the late 50s NASA was making giant aluminum balloons that was supposed to orbit earth and behave much like the satellites of today. They stood 10 stories tall and amazingly only weighed 132 pounds! Apart from all that they looked fucking awesome. Jared and I saw a similar Flight of the Navigator type blob at Millenium Park in Chicago about three months ago.

There are a few more pictures HERE as well as a good article to go with them.

yeah, someone should make something like that now and allow people to throw around in a big warehouse.

Ned, Keith and I went to a art opening several weeks ago where they had a room filled with pretty large mylar (i think) balloons. Though they weren't nearly as large as this satelloon. They were filled with helium and thus very light and could be tossed around the room. Mix that with $2 beers and needless to say we had a totally kick butt time!
