The S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G Bee

I'm djing a spelling bee at the 3-3-1 Club this Saturday, and of course I'm going through a bunch of shit trying to make a set that is all songs with words spelled out in them. If you guys have any suggestions, or better yet, can send me the mp3, then I'd be S-U-P-E-R-H-A-P-P-Y!

That commercial was such a magical erotical experience!

You'll have to play D.A.N.C.E. by Justice of course.
How about Cornelius' "Typewrite Lesson" that is like 9 minutes of spelling out 3-letter acronyms?

And of course those Blackilicious songs would be appropriate as well.

Could go with KRS One - J.I.M.M.Y. or the REEEEEEMMMMMIIIIIIIXXXXX, D.I.D.D.Y.

Queen Latifa - U-N-I-T-Y

Anything with Snoop or Fabolous, cause they spell their names in every song.

The Wu, C.R.E.A.M

I thought of M-E-T-H-O-D Man, by the Wu-Tang, but I forgot about C.R.E.A.M.
Queen Latifa - U-N-I-T-Y is awesome!

Stacey made me a muxtape of spelling/word songs
estace.muxtape.com check it out!

that was the cure and xtc, respectively - and this is leon thomas with L-O-V-E
The mp3 is pretty quiet. I'm not sure if you can use any of these in the atmosphere you are trying to create, but they do involve spelling so...there you have it.

Larry T. and the Family: "L-O-V-E- Love is the Key"

The song is fuuuucking awesome, but I've seem to lost the mp3 copy of the album I had (the whole thing is great). I have a feeling Derek or Jason might have it?

Jason, good call with the Leon Thomas song. I don't have that LP yet, but I 'm a big fan of his.

Also, I'm sure there's plenty of Bob Dorough/Schoolhouse Rock songs with lots of spelling.

By the way, this sounds like a fun theme night. Anyway you can record your set?

Is Naughty by Nature - O.P.P appropriate? OPP is not really a word, but the song rocks and everyone will know it's time to fuck with Other People Pu$$y.

Ryan, I couldn't find the Larry T. album, but Leon Thomas I definitely got from you.
Jared, I also thought of Bay City Rollers, Saturday Night, which would be appropriate for the date you play.

About recording the set... I don't think that I'll be doing a set. I'm under the assumption that I'll be spinning a song or two between rounds. At least that's what I do for the Trivia Night, and I was told it goes down pretty much the same. The thing is, I don't have soulseek, or anything. I can't get it to work on my computer. So PLEASE SEND ME THE MP3's! jaredthiele@gmail.com I'll love you for ever. or I'll just go on itunes and buy some of these.

A good resource as well is to search through google's blog search (just google "Blog search") and chances are one of the songs has been upped on a music blog somewhere withing the past couple of months.

However, I couldn't find Cornelius or Larry T & the Fam. You've probably got a better chance at having the Blackalicious songs...
