Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators

Seeing as there's enough great soul tunes released back in the day to keep a man busy his entire life, the whole neo-soul scene hadn't much appealed to me. Like Ren-Fests or Civil War reenactments, the revelry in anachronistic aesthetics seemed something best participated in that consumed--I wanted to catch the Sugarmen 3 live more so than listen to the record I owned. That said, no one can front on Sharon Jones & The Dap-kings, the El Michels Affair stuff I've heard I really like, Breakestra's last CD of all original material was good and boy-o, I've been really into this Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators record. Dunno about Nicole, but they're all Finnish, although she is married to Jimi Tenor who plays on the record. It's produced by Didier Selin, the guy behind the Didier Sound Spectrum record from 2000 or so that is pretty dang fanky (can upload if need be). Here's my two picks.
