Twang of Salt

I'm trying to readjust to life in America while simultaneously trying to adjust to my life as an unemployed married man living in his parents' basement.
Thought a good way to work at this would be to take advantage of it so I let my father take my wife and I out see a matinee at the local Showcase Cinema yesterday. It was my father's suggestion and my father's money and as I've been out of the loop and have no clue about what's cool stateside I let my father pick the movie.
He chose M:I:3 (Mission Impossible 3).
I try to keep an open mind about anything these days, even when it comes to these monster hollywood movies, but on average I tend to hate action movies or at least feel the same away about them as I do disaster flicks (stuff the story - just hurry up and freak us out with two hours of people dying).
Nevertheless I totally loved M:I:3. Probably for none of the reasons intended and I would certainly never want to see it again, but still, for those few hours I was alone with Tom Cruise and his kingdom I was completely drawn in.
The story is not any good but manages to never let off the action and paranoia buttons so the audience can never take a break but fall endlessly into the loud, frenetic world up on the screen above them.
Tom Cruise, at the top of his game, is totally fucking crazy and drives the movie deeper into his own personal fantasy world complete with obligitory topless scene and motorcycle riding and dropping from high places.
Near the end of the movie Tom actually dies - but after the sad piano music plays through (indicating a thorough and final death)he pops back to life as if to say, "I am Tom Cruise and I can never die!" and truly mean it.
The cast also includes Philip Seymor Hoffman who I respect and Simon Pegg who starred in and co-authored 'Shaun of the Dead' which I liked. So that added to the confusion .
It's the unintentional mindfuck of the summer.
Like liquor in the carved out shell of a watermelon.

I thought the theme of that last M.I. movie was Tom Cruise's hair. I haven't seen this new one yet, but I get the impression from the trailers that this movie's theme is Tom Cruise's eyes.

what a boat of dreams.
