Kill The Vultures...
...Before They Dine On All Of Us.
If you live in Minneapolis I hope you have had a chance to see Kill the Vultures play live. I first saw them play at the 7th st Entry, I dunno, a year ago for a Dax Pearson benefit show, and the sound was pretty bad, but their energy was strong, and vibrant.
A few months later I caught a scaled down, two person version of the band at a Ron Essex studio party. That show was really what pulled me in to their raw sound, and style. I had the feeling that I wasn't watching a development in rap, but watching an evolution of punk rock. Alexei Casselle, aka Cresent Moon, was rapping, but he appeared more like a young Henry Rollins, filled strong with frustration, dissaticfaction, and angst.
Later down the road, Alexei's wife Channy, ended up working at the coffee shop with me, and I got a chance to get to know them, and gave Channy one of my extra bikes.
Alexei & Channy are also in a very different sounding group called Roma Di Luna, that I've yet to see live.
Anyway, good people, for sure.
Check out the album, Kill The Vultures. released in 2005.
