"In a World..."

Have you seen Pan's Labyrinth yet? I watched it last night, and went into it not really knowing what it was about. I had heard that it was a kids movie, but for adults(?). Turns out it's kind of a Alice in Wonderland story, that might not be for kids. I'm a bad judge of that kinda thang. Since I'm not a parent, I don't pretend to think like one.
However, It's the kind of movie I would have liked to see as a kid. There is a lot brutal killing in it, so If you don't mind seeing violence, and you like fantasy, then you'll probably enjoy this film.

Before Pan's Labyrinth, I caught a trailer for what looks like the Best Movie Ever!

Playin Bas...ket...ballll

This year has been the first, probably ever, that I have paid close attention to basketball. And tonight was no exception. Ya'll fools catch this? Garnett slayed it; 44 points and 11 boards. 121-112, halting the Suns' 17 game winning streak (not to mention 33-2 in the last 35 games). The Suns played tough too, putting up above average numbers across the board.

Oh yeah, thanks for fixing my computer Glabe. Again.

This is the original Black Devil Disco Club EP, from 1978. I had it all twisted. I still don't know if that new record was put together by the original group, or if it's just a sound alike thing, using that name.

Ever See Rubber Johnny?

Chris Cunningham directed it, Aphex Twin did the music for it. I think there is a longer version. I see the DVD on sale, but I just now watched it for the first time.

More from that Couche Tard mixtape, by the Whites, or everyone in Spank Rock who's not black. I love this stuff. These songs aren't from new records, and they're not remixed, but all the good parts are there, put together, and we're left with a solid, old school sounding mixtape.

Black Devil Disco Club

I just picked up a stack of vinyl from the Fetus. One of the records I got was this Black Devil Disco Club record, titled 28 Later.
With the record jacket providing no information, and Me not knowing exactly what this record is, I did a little research, and found out some thangs about this that only confused me more.
First, let me explain what I do know. Put out by Rephlex, this album is only 6 tracks long. Each one of the tracks is a killer blend of disco, Kraftwerk inspired electro, and European/Native American sounding vocals. The whole thing reminds me a lot of Metro Area.

In doing a little research, I discovered that this group may not be new. That they may have come out in 1978. That the group might actually be called Black Devil, and their EP is titled Disco Club. That it may have been a unheard gem, floating around a few small circles of european disco collectors for years, until 1999, when Chemical Brothers sampled a song called "Earthmessage", on "Got Glint?", for their album Surrender. That Rephlex "reissued" the original Black Devil Disco Club EP in 2004. That all of this might be a big joke played on listeners, by Aphex Twin.

Whatever the truth may be, that has very little significance on the recordings we get on 28 Later, since these songs are blazin' hot disco jams, that could dominate dancefloors just as much today, as they would have in 1978.

It's More Fun To Compute

There is no arguing that Kraftwerk changed the way people listen to music. They influenced everyone in music. Well, maybe not someone like Garth Brooks, but just about every other popular musician has a little Computer Love thrown in their music somewhere.
I think there are probably a gagillion tributes to Kraftwerk, but there is another one coming out this Feburary.
8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kraftwerk performed on vintage 8-Bit videogame systems will be released in the U.S. via Astralwerks.

So far, the Beard-off is 9 weeks long, and the face follicles are growing strong.
Beard-off week 9

What's with all yous pansy Old Boys shaving yous heads, and face like Kojak?
Do you think people wont know you're bald? You believe people wont know you're actually hiding a Paul Bunyan under that face? That ultra self-concious, Fester Addams, penis-for-a-head look can't get you laid as much as you think it does.
That look has got to go. Time to man up, and embrace the Old Boy Dude you really are.

Booty Booty

God, I love dollar bins. A few weeks ago I found a few 2 Live Crew, Stetsasonic, and Fat Boys 12" Singles, in perfect shape. Each one had at least one worthy remix, B-side, or cool instrumental that could be good for doing a remix with.
Today at the Fetus, I found a few booty bass CD singles, with crazy remixes, and dope art work.

Here's a shovel. Can you dig it fool?
