Sayonara

So I meant to type in Japan "Flag" but I missed the L due to my recent inebriation, so here's what we came up with. Just want to say Sayonara to those who still live in Japan and express my thanks to Ryan, Josh and the rest of you who I've met & hung with during my two year Japan-Banger. I'll miss this place and I hope to come back soon. I will be back in America on Tuesday and will be eating chili-dogs and doing push-up/outs and any other red/white/blue-blooded things I can think of. じゃ、またね。

Or how 'bout a THOUSANDAIRE??!?!

Design Boom sponsors competitions from time to time (actually all the time). Sometimes they're a bit out of reach for normals like us, but the current one is a graphic design challenge, which can be won with crayons and a Perkins place-mat if you BELIEVE. And I do. First prize is 500,000 Japanese Yen. That's about 500,000 American pennies. Bonus! It's for a totally over-exposed and thoroughly uninspiring cause. Anyone want to enter with me? I plan to draw the entire logo with a pencil held between my recently firmed pecs. Did I mention, $Five Thousandaire Dollars?

Who wants to be a billionaire?

"In Zimbabwe, banknotes issued a few months ago are worth only a fraction of a percentage of what they were originally. The Zimbabwean $50 billion bill is worth 33 U.S. cents; and it takes 1.2 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars to make up about $4,000 U.S."

Zimbabwe introduces a new 100-billion-dollar bank note as the annual inflation rate hits 2.2 million percent.

The Dork Knight

I went to a midnight showing of the new Batman. Crap my pants, and sit in it good. For some characters, the lines between good an evil are blurred, but for the mysterious Joker, he only knows murder, corruption, dynamite and fucking the world in the ass. Plus, we get to see Batman's new toys, like the full frontal cracked ice Bat Thong.

Beer, or Runny Pooh? You Decide!

Okay Heights contributors! Who's thirsty?
REW and I have begun our own brewery, and it's located right in my own study! Two Rude Dudes' Crude Brew (tm) has finally begun their first test batch, and already after two days of fermentation it's looking good enough to drink! Or at least to excrete!

Love these

Go here.

neon and more neon

Finally someone made a blog about technology and design and other artsy shit. This is a totally unexploited void on IN.T.E.R.N.E.T.

But for serious, this one has a nice collection of pictures of things with Neon. Maybe it's a tidal wave of nostalgiasploitation as a new generation of credit-card holders nears 30, but it's apparent that there is some serious love for neon colors and tubes. I can't put a date on the start of this phasion, but I think we must be nearing Peak Neon. Everyone seems to be fluorescent at dance parties, American Apparel et al. have jumped on it, and the shit is all over the underground malls in Seoul (literally underground, not some kind of black-market "urban-tribe" mall. Note: start that mall.) Buuut, for all that, I still love looking at neon colors and still find them intimately tied to all instances of the word 'future.'

P.S. Through the magic of wikipedia link-clicking I recently learned that all those fake words made of smashing two other words together are called portmonteau words. Sound smart at your next neon party, it could be your last!!

P.P.S. Taking bets on the next fashion-phase. Back to lumberjack plaid? Saved by the Bell Pastel? 80's electro Red/Black/White? Zombies? Beyond Thunderdome Urban-Tribe? (it has to happen some time...it has been foretold, so many times)

That is What I'm Saying & That is What I Mean

Saw Boston play the Yankees on Saturday at the soon-to-be abandoned Yankee stadium.
Red Sox lost unfortunately.
In other summer news I've been trying to dig up as much music of William Onyeabor as possible. So far I've found four songs bouncing around on the blogs.
Here are two that are very nice, although the second one has a bit of skipping in the beginning.

"Better Change Your Mind"

"When the Going is Smooth & Good"
