R.I.P. Shane McConkey

Those of you who know me, know that I have skied a ton. I enjoyed skiing enough that I actually moved to Idaho for two years to do just that, ski. Skiing is a sport/scene that has a huge barrier of entry and is ladled with dorks, douches and dickheads. Shane McConkey is the one of the primary reasons that skiing has seen a recent resurgence in popularity. He cut through all the bullshit and made skiing exciting, fun and ultimately accessible to a greater audience. He died yesterday. And although I didn't know him personally, he was a huge source of inspiration throughout my formative years. He will be greatly missed.

ThruYou

Further proof that I will accomplish nothing in my life. This guy just hounded youtubes and picked out people playing their shit and made music out of it. Check out the site, pretty interesting considering none of the musical styles are alike. Gotta hand it to this euro trash.

E-Cig!? USB Cigarette!? Waaa?

Sometimes at work a press release will go to me by mistake. Usually I just delete them because they're always boring or lame in one way or another. But this one sort of exploded my face.

LAS VEGAS, NV - March 17, 2009
- Following a tiresome patent infringement lawsuit, E-Cig says it is moving on with new innovative electronic cigarette products. The company has been battling to protect its product line after a manufacturer called Ruyan took the company to court over patent rights in February 2009.

...E-Cig plans to move forward with the release of a new improved line of electronic cigarettes. Four of the new items are the E-Cig E8, E9, U8 and U9. The E-Cig E8 and E9 products use special rechargeable batteries and chargers, and the E-Cig U8 and U9 can be charged by connecting to a computer through the USB plug without the special rechargeable batteries and chargers. The E-Cig U8 is the smallest electronic cigarette of the world actually, which has exactly the same size as the traditional cigarette.

...These are battery-powered or USB-powered cigarettes that operate with an e-liquid cartridge. They provide a healthy, affordable alternative to smoking real cigarettes. They look and feel like real cigarettes, but produce a vapor mist instead of smoke. Users can choose their E-Cig product with varying nicotine densities, selecting less nicotine than a usual cigarette or even no nicotine at all for a healthier choice.

Here's the company website.

this is a messy one, but...

i'd say I'm happy that i finally have the ability to access the world wide internuts in my own chair in my own home in my free time, after two and a half years of not having it, but i feel like i have managed to spend my time doing alot of other stuff.

that stuff i did other than the internet may have been as fruitless as if I had had the internet, but more than anything I am happy to be able to talk regularly with my friends thousands of miles away, the same way i talk to ryan outside of a convenience store drinking beers on the street, or at the local train exit which we have turned into our outdoor bar.

getting information and hearing new music every day is great, and my time may even have been spent more wisely had the internet been accessible to me, but i don't want to wallow in regret.

needless to say i am glad i can put stuff up and talk to you guys as if i wasn't thousands of miles away from you all.

that said the best thing i can come up with to post is something you are all probably tired of hearing about, or have already seen.. the other night i went to a screening of Zeitgeist #2 or Zeitgeist Addendum (the most recent version, looks like there's 13 parts) that my friend Shawn put on (on what is known now as "Z Day") for a bunch of people in a small cafe who otherwise may not have seen it. I'm not sure how attuned Japanese people are to the Zeitgeist thing, and there were only about 15 people in the room..

But it was inspiring to see it. I won't post the video up because it would be preaching to the choir, so you can find it on youtube if you want to..

BUT I was looking at givemesomethingtoread, which Keith had posted, and found an article on Brewster Kahle (some millionaire genius), who started a great site filled with old PSA films, science class documentaries, filmstrips, etc. called archive.org which i first heard about after seeing this Panda Bear video for "Take Pills"

The video is comprisde of clips from a PSA film called "Drugs are like that" which came out in the 70's and is greeeeat..

Jared, you played the Panda Bear album for me last summer, during our bratwurst celebration.. Would you, or anyone, happen to know if the songs Animal Collective collaborated on with Vashti Bunyann were ever released?

The New Thing

Eastbound & Down, the new show by up-&-comer Danny McBride is a 10. HBO comedy series, so get used to the excessive swears and use of hooters. I've only caught 2 episode so far, 1st and 4th, and I'm alllll in. Do yourself a favor, watch it.

May as well...

This was right next to the smarties vid. I usually don't post much architecture stuff, but this one is pretty cool I think. I'm not much into these houses that people build in the middle of an empty field with short grass and picture-perfect trees (and there are plenty), because I can't imagine a lifestyle so impossibly chic.

...Wifey is reclining in the sun in her white Chanel bikini with a martini and the New York Times Observer, when her rich art-dealer husband comes rolling up on his motorcycle after a long day being helicoptered to different galleries around Paris...
"Puff Daddy invited us to play in his new ball-pit, the balls are made of gold." he says. "Hmm, I don't know I just played in David Blaine's gold ball-pit last week, and anyway, we have ten-acres of grass to mow and there's no food for miles. I've been eating cocktail olives and ice for three days...

Remember candy cigarettes? Forget candy cigarettes.

On the european web site where I found this they say "Best ad I've seen in a while" How quaintly out-of-touch can you get Europe? For just a second I kind of channeled Tipper Gore, but then I thought, fuck yeah kid. Just stick to the "soft" stuff, and stay away from mentos (too chewy).

A Sexman Production...

Well guys, it's time I drop this bomb...

It's a lock this kid goes postal.

Perhaps we should hear his thoughts on Jerry Seinfeld?

So this nut does videos like every other day. You have now entered the twilight zone, prepare to waste the next hour of your life.

Videos of note: Obama, McCain, Hillary, Chris Brown, Big News, his homemade movie of Jason chasing him, 50 Cent and pretty much everything not related to a movie review.
