This is how I feel

I hope everyone can hear this mp3. It's purely amazing. It's like kids choir, meets family folk album, plus phantom of the opera. The music alone blows my mind, and since it's about "Hawaii being cool but Minnesota being better" just kills me. It's like the story of my life put to tape. This should have been the Thiele Family, instead of the Folker Family. Anyway, enjoy.

Kent's Cut of the Week

My first CD was E. 1999 Eternal, but then I returned it for What's the Story Morning Glory. Not sure if that was a good move or not cause I basically wore laser holes through that CD, but I was 12, so whatever. It took me till the end high school to really get into rap/hip-hop and it was ironically Bone who started that phase. Never really picked a favorite member, but I am now committed to Bizzy as my #1 seed.

And while I'm on this kick...

Explaining people with (relatively) simple formulas and such, here's something I was telling Derek about a while back, meant to post it but couldn't remember what it was called. "Power laws", not Prime directive. That's Star Trek...

That graph on the right matches with unusual accuracy the following things:

-income distribution
-population size of cities
-death rates to age (read right to left of course)
-animal metabolism to size
-light intensity with voltage
-Fractals (somehow)
-Stress and Plastic strain (some materials, like steel, harder as they are 'bent' (or stressed in their plastic ranges) try bending a paper clip and you'll notice this)
-Newton's Inverse-Square law of Gravity

Even distribution networks, from lungs to traffic systems. See Constructal Law

For an atheist like myself it's just boggling to see the universe adhere to something so rigidly. I guess if there is a god, he probably has a totally fractaled out beard that will trip you out in inverse proportion to the square of your distance from his kindly visage.

On the auction block.

For those of us who haven't taken that plunge of commitment called wed-lock (all but one yes?), here's some hope that the longer you wait, the hotter, smarter, and shinier your eventual ball-and-chain will be. I've loved game theory since I took econ in high school and our teacher had us play a few games that simulate market behaviors. It's creepy how human behavior can be so crassly, bluntly, and accurately described by the basest of motives. So here's a dismal view of love for all you cynics...

Extract:
"Your first thought might be that the "strong bidders"—women who (whether because of looks, social ability, or any other reason) are conventionally deemed more of a catch—would consistently win [the marriage] auction. But this is not true. In fact, game theory predicts, and empirical studies of auctions bear out, that auctions will often be won by "weak" bidders, who know that they can be outbid and so bid more aggressively, while the "strong" bidders will hold out for a really great deal."

666

A couple things worth mentioning to The Forest Heights on this Thursday afternoon:

The Capitol Hill Blue describes the affectionate gesture pictured below as a "fist to fist thumbs up." The picture was taken in St. Paul this week, by the way.

The National Journal posted a story on May 31st about how Chinese hackers, working on behalf of the Chinese military, may have been responsible for that huge black out in the NE back in 2003... among other things.

And lastly, the last post by Shashin Gallery was the 666th post on the Forest Heights, which, if I'm not mistaken, was the original goal for this blog. Well done everyone!

Breakfast Cake

Little something courtesy of my brother. He decided to make a cake this morning (Sunday) entirely out of breakfast food. Using a technique passed down from my grandmother, he used Bisquick to help solidify the eggs for cake layers. Enjoy!
