Raj & Thuds

Found this gem in my spring cleaning. If it's too powerful I will respectfully remove it. Otherwise, let its beauty reign.
Also, here's a couple happy tracks from some albums I got from my good friend Jon Tassi (ass joint, btw). I'm sure these are not unknowns but at least you know what's keeping me company these days.

Cherub Hymn from Bruce Haack's 1970 album, Electric Lucifer.

Also, title track from Matmos' latest album, Supreme Balloon. I've never been much interested in Matmos, but they apparently used only analog synths on this album so it was all I could do to not fall in love. This song is long but easily my favorite from the album. Definitely a big balloon involved and a lot of mountains being crossed.

And this one I'm sure everyone knows, Roots Train, from Junior Murvin's Police and Thieves. His voice is too good and this is ripe for summer listening.

Happy weekending!

Here's a recently acquired Italo jammer 12" from 1981 by Firefly. The vocals are kinda brilliant because half the time I understand by the feel of his voice what he's getting at, but really this guy's pronunciation is so swazzled that I have no fucking clue what he's saying. The seeming behind the trio, Maurice Cavalieri, seems to have worked on the Rainbow Team LP (a 12" from them will be next), and perhaps something with Kano as well. The below is not my photo, but I have the same 1981 Excaliber issue which I think came out before it was licensed to FullTime for a US release. Not sure how much the mixes differ, if at all, but the version I've upped (the "AA" side) is parenthetically called a re-edit--although it's quite similar to the A side. Haven't played this one out yet, but I'm discojocking Fri. & Sat. and will get to see how the massive stomper break-down goes over!

Help me with words.

EDIT: I am an idiot.

So, On my FRESH AIR pod cast today (from a few days back) they were discussing John McCain's spiritual homie, Rev. John Hagge. And I was thinking about the uber-informative episode of Bill Moyers Journal regarding his nutsy dipshit-club CUFI. More so than GWB, these guys want American/Christian (do we even need the slash anymore?!) control of the "holyland" to help bring forth the holy wrath of Revelations.
Which reminded me of the word that describes "End Times Philosophy"...which spurng to mind as Echiminical. But it might be Echumincal. But Google's not doing it for me and I'm a bit drank and just want to remind everyone that our glorius language has a glorius word out there called... Echumincal?
(meaning of or pertaining to End of Days Theology).

N.E.R.D.

It's time to decide who is the king of nerds. Rich white people who go to Ivy League schools and are so out of touch with reality they recreate fictional children's books, or nerds who are destined to be nerds and have accepted their fate. VOTE OR DIE

Larping (Live Action Role Playing)

Quidditch (There is honestly a league, not just a one day thing)

And can I just say fuck Harry Potter and grown ass people who think these books are god's gift to literature. Read some Roald Dahl or Shel Silverstein if you want genius child-fiction.

Cee-Lo

I've been a fan of Cee-Lo for a long time now. Goodie Mob & early Outkast are a major part of why I started getting into hip-hop. It's kind of a shame that it took that Gnarles Barkley collabo with that dude that made that awful Grey Album to get "credibility", cause he is deeper than deep in the origins of modern hip-hop. If you guys haven't heard much or any of his solo stuff, do yourself a favor and start with Cee-Lo Green & His Perfect Imperfections.

Whoops, had a couple month long break there...
Continuing with the series of boompin 12"s, here's Oliver Cheatham's "Get Down Saturday Night." This track resurfaced thanks to a couple of recent UK house hits, although Daftpunk's Something About Us (assuredly titled after the record's B-side "Something about You") was where I first heard the smoove Saturday worthy groove. The track seems to be the work of Al Hudson, and the song was co-written with Kevin McCord, also of One-Way, previously mentioned here.
Pictured below is the label to the same Euro 12" I've been rubbing out (no difference to the US 12" I think). I'm sure yous know it, but here's a decent rip at 256kbps--although my cartridge might ride a bit heavy.

Baby got Bacharach

Hey Kiddos, I turn 80 fukcing years old today!

Sunday, May 11

So, my sister took this photo in NYC last night. Notice the Jersey Plates, Screen Printed Everything, Smoke from Squealing Tires, Public Urination, Kicked Over Garbage Can. Something you won't notice, the Trance music blaring from inside the car. This may be the best thing ever to happen in the history of everything. Thank God someone was there to document it. I love you Claire (My Sister).

S.Y.D: Ladies With Cheatin' Guys Anthem

Why didn't you guys tell me about this before? I had to hear about it from Kathy, the girl that role plays like she's my step-dad when we would turn the lights off. That's not true, my parents are still married. Anyway, check it out.

Did you catch the line where the guy goes, "Smell my dick? wait a minute, hold up. That's how a bitch get her eye swoll' up." Better believe that smelling a dick is grounds for getting yo' punch on, in the face on.

Maybe after this spelling bee, we can do a smelling bee, and I'll try to find a bunch of songs about stuff that smells. It could work.

Knick-Knack, Paddy-Whack, give a dog a bone. Ding!

I'm not sure how many of you guys follow basketball, but this interview is priceless either way. This guy, Delonte West, has been in the league for only a few years after a magical run in the NCAA Tourney with St. Josephs. Regardless, this fool has seen the light... caused by years of taking mind-altering drugs I can only assume.

I'm djing a spelling bee at the 3-3-1 Club this Saturday, and of course I'm going through a bunch of shit trying to make a set that is all songs with words spelled out in them. If you guys have any suggestions, or better yet, can send me the mp3, then I'd be S-U-P-E-R-H-A-P-P-Y!

I sat in as a guest DJ at the Kinda Cloudy Radio show on KFAI here in Minneapolis. It was my second time doing it, and I'm getting a little more comfortable with being in the studio with all the controls. You can stream the entire show at the stations website www.kfai.org/node/3921

New At Die Monster

www.die-monster.com is now one year old, and even though I have unrealistic visions of how awesome the site should, and could be, I think I did pretty good with it. Anyway, I'd like to announce that Tomasz is the newest Die Monster contributor, and I couldn't be more excited to have him on the site. This is going to be good! Already is, check out his first post here.

Also, I made sign-in names for Ryan, Josh and Ned, but if you guys need your passwords reset or something, then let me know. And, if anyone else wants to write about music, or things related to music at Die Monster, just let me know, and I'll send you a name and password.

Just Farr A Laugh

Bleachy Loves .99 Cent Big Bufords. He can't help it.

So I just picked up a promo copy of Earles and Jensen Present: Just Farr A Laugh Vols. 1 & 2 - The Greatest Prank Calls Ever! and if you dig the "get a laughs", then it's worth the listen.

I have no idea who Andrew Earles and Jeffrey Jensen are, but from what I've just heard, I gather these two are really into creating hilarious characters, and sticking with them to the point were they probably forget they're acting. Though they're not mean spirited assholes like the Jerky Boys, and they don't mock or offend their recipients like Borat. In fact, the person on the other end is usually the one laughing.

If you've ever worked a job where you've had to deal with strange phone calls from random customers, then you should appreciate what these guys are doing.

Here are some calls from Bleachy
