I'll Find You, And I'll Kill You

I'm currently writing a review of the latest Chad Vangaalen album Soft Airplane, which came out on Sub Pop Records early last month. I'm not usually a fan of singer/song writer types, but this guy crosses some essential boundaries that make him different from the Jason Mraz, Jose Gonzalez, Aqualung or whatever other douche dicks I don't ever need to hear. First off, he's more like Andrew Broder and the early formation of Fog, in that he is just a one man bedroom recording artist who disregards the notion that songs need to be radio friendly, pop, or even set to a verse-chorus-verse arrangement. But the thing I like best about this guy is that he tells these stories that are so sick and disturbing that they could make you gag, but he sings them with such a sweet, almost crying, falsetto that it somehow just seems human, and not at all disgusting.

Did you catch the line where the guy goes, "Smell my dick? wait a minute, hold up. That's how a bitch get her eye swoll' up." Better believe that smelling a dick is grounds for getting yo' punch on, in the face on.

Maybe after this spelling bee, we can do a smelling bee, and I'll try to find a bunch of songs about stuff that smells. It could work.

I've actually managed to do four of these boners more or less on schedule. Unbelievable! I don't really know much about Unlimited Touch aside from they are Crown Heights Affair affiliated, and put out one LP on Prelude. They've got two other mother-falcon jams that I know of, the more known "Searching to Find the One" and the B side to this record, "In the Middle."
I've had that LP for a while, but was psyched to get this 12" because I rearry ruv it and play it all the time. A Francois Kevorkian mix.
